This week we have helped many individuals; below are two of the messages we received. People that need our help, need it, often through no fault of their own. They’ve left an abusive relationship with nothing but the clothes on their backs, they’ve been sanctioned on their Universal Credit claim because they were in hospital and were unable to attend a mandatory meeting. The migration from old style benefits (legacy benefits) to Universal Credit. This is a nightmare as the old style benefits are paid more frequently, fortnightly, rather than monthly. When they submit their migration claim for Universal Credit, their existing benefits cease to be paid and there can be a wait of up to 5 weeks without receiving anything. If you are already living hand to mouth, how are you supposed to survive? A person can request an advanced payment of their Universal Credit, however, that has to be repaid and any future payments are subject to deductions.
Here, we helped a young woman without any family support and sent her £40 for food.
“Thank you for the work you do, your support is greatly appreciated”
Second was this one, again we sent £40 to a young man for food.
“They just sent me £40! I just want to thank you for everything you’ve done! And, can you please extend my gratitude to the Biscuit fund! I really can’t thank them enough! I can get enough food until I get next payment on the 11th March! Once again thank you so much for everything! So So Grateful! Many Thanks”
We know that £40 doesn’t seem like a lot of money, but when you have absolutely nothing and no hope of getting anything, having enough to know you can put a tenner on the meter and get some food in and eat a decent meal is huge. If you’d like to support us in helping others that are less fortunate, then please consider becoming a regular monthly donor. Some send us £2 a month, some send much more. There really is never any expectation, just a lot of gratitude from us and those helped above.
